A Photographer in the Making

Today would have been my Dad’s 67th birthday which prompted me to look back for a photo of him.  I was looking for one of me as a little girl sitting with him.  My Mom was pretty good about taking pictures and I was sure there would be a few to pick from.  I was going to remind you to take lots of pictures of your children with their Dads because one day it will be a real treasure to them (like mine are to me).  However, I came across this one instead and it made me smile so I’ll save my lecture about you getting in pictures for another day.  😉

I took this picture of my parents in 1978 at the Birmingham Zoo.  I hope I have come a long way in my photography skills since 1978.  I didn’t know much about lighting back then (apparently).  It looks like I might have been trying to follow the rule of thirds in my composition?!  They seem to be smiling a lot (more than usual in photos) and I wonder if they are laughing because they can tell I am not getting them centered in the camera?  It reminds me of how hard we laugh when I turn my camera over to my little boy and he snaps away shooting the tops of our heads.  I don’t know why but it is so funny and if he ever gets our faces in frame, we are having a very happy and candid moment.  You should try it with your kids and see how happy you look!

Here is a sample of Alex taking a picture of the rest of us last year.  He took 11 pictures and we all fit in this one…don’t we look happy?

Happy Birthday to my Daddy!
