family atlanta thank you

Just a few of my favorite families

February is here and I am still writing the wrong year. It is already flying by! It is never too late to thank all my clients who continually trust me to capture their growing families year after year. I love them all in their various sizes and stages and I hope they will remember 2015 fondly when they look at their beautiful portraits.  Thank you for making last year an amazing experience and 2016 so far is just as great for Lisa Phillipson Photography. 🙂

I’m looking forward to everything 2016 holds for my photography business. Just like the families I photograph, my business grows and changes and there is always something exciting going on. I will be scheduling families again by the end of February and that is where my heart really is. So far this year I have created several albums for clients that I am now waiting to arrive. I love holding something tangible as a great reminder of a fun session. I also photographed my friend, Luke Lantta, for a political campaign which was something different for me but a pleasure to do. I have another Our Town photo shoot next week and I can’t wait to reveal which family will be on the March cover! More on all of this soon including a recap of my time at the Ritz Carlton, Reynold’s Plantation for the National Association of Professional Child Photographers annual conference.

Happy New Year!

(Late on social media but see this post to know I at least ordered my Valentine’s Day cards on time!)

2016 colors of the year from pantone

The colors of the year have been announced by Pantone and oh dear, they are pastels: Rose Quartz and Serentiy.

Oh but wait there is more!

I’m starting to feel better now…

“Vivid brights give way to excitement and optimism, though quiet stability prevails in this season’s palette.” You can check out the Pantone website to see more options including iced latte and the very popular gray. These look great with big pops of color and continue to be good options for outdoor portraits in Spring and Summer.

Try rose quartz and serenity if you like the more neutral look in portraits that can be so timeless.

Wednesday means Fox 5 Atlanta will be showing a Wednesday’s Child Segment featuring a foster child in need of a permanent home.  Try to catch channel 5 at noon or 6pm for the latest feature. I assisted one a few months ago by taking pictures of Toni’s segment at an Atlanta hair salon. Toni got a day of special treatment getting a total makeover.  She was full of questions for the professional hair and makeup team. I loved her ambition and all the things she wants to do in life.  You can see more about Toni and her segment here. She will be aging out of foster care soon and would benefit so much from a permanent family that could provide extra guidance and love. More about Toni

“Toni is a funny and positive teen with a great personality and a great sense of humor. She loves horses, playing card games, listening to music, talking and going to the movies. Toni also enjoys learning new things, cooking and doing hair and make-up for others, at which she is very talented. She is interested in doing hair and make-up or cooking professionally when she grows up. Toni needs a loving adoptive family who will provide her with the attention, structure, encouragement and nurturing environment she needs to continue to thrive and reach her goals. Her family will also need to support her desire to maintain her relationship with her sister, who has been planned for separately, as well as her need for ongoing therapy and academic assistance, which addresses her developmental delays.”

family marietta family mariettaSharing a session from this summer in Marietta.  It was this little guy’s 3 year old pictures and his Mom wanted to capture his great love of trains.  He was super serious and you could see the wheels turning in his head at all times.  My boys loved trains and I miss those days when you were always aware anytime you saw trains or even the tracks. I loved this one’s curiosity and luckily Dad was very diligent in following and keeping up with him. We took advantage of the occasion to capture some family portraits while we were at it. It was great to see who this family has become since their last professional photo session. family mariettaThe picture below is one of my favorites of this year. I love the relationship between Mom and daughter and I’m glad I was with them in the moment to capture this. It is “so them.” 🙂 family marietta

Ideas on what colors you can wear for your family to look their very best!

atlanta late summer colorful clothing ideas

We are officially back in school but in my mind it will still be summer for a couple of more months.

Here are some colorful ideas of what you can wear together as a family that will contrast well against the green grass and trees of summer.  My best advice is to start as early as possible in the summer for your sessions with young children. The humidity alone is tough in summer months, however, it is still a popular time to hold a family photography session and it can be done successfully.  If your children are older go for late afternoons for the wonderful, dreamy light a sunset provides.

Use my What-To-Wear Pinterest Board listed below for many many more options during all seasons of the year.  I also have clothing samples specifically for families using the tab on the upper left side of this website.
