ourtown family ourtown family ourtown familyI’ve known the Cochrans for many years so what a surprise when we were matched up for the latest Our Town. There couldn’t be a more perfect family to be featured on the cover and when we added their new puppy, Buddy, we had cuteness overload! They were a little nervous about bringing Buddy because he isn’t known for his…good behavior (yet).  I’ve worked with lots of puppies in photo sessions so I felt confident he should be there and he definitely did not disappoint. Look how good he is in these pictures! Hopefully he didn’t go home and chew up all their shoes.

ourtown family ourtown familyThis is a Vinings Estates family and the kids go to Whitefield Academy in Mableton where the whole family is very active. What better place for a family portrait than at the place where they spend so much time. Whitefield was very generous and were happy to have us shoot on their campus. The weather had turned cold and rainy again and we rescheduled at least once to avoid SNOW at our session. In Atlanta, we think of warmer weather for March and flowers so we had hoped for a more spring-like setting. Luckily we had bright sun on the day we shot and we avoided the rain and snow after all.

Sharing a little fun with you to celebratae Valentine’s Day!

The NAPCP Retreat last month had a fun styled Senior Session for girls. I mostly opened packages of confetti and glitter (and then tried to pick up the mess I made!).  I was happy I was able to get a few shots of my own and thought I would share them on this Valentine’s weekend.  This was a fun set up using a lot of Target dollar store goodies and a few things from Amazon too. I think the real key to a gorgeous session is professional hair and makeup. These girls were professionally made up and styled and it shows. If you are scheduling your very special, once-in-a-lifetime Senior Portrait Session, I would highly recommend it. Oh, and add a little music too. 🙂

retreatCan you believe I have lived in Atlanta for as many years as I have and had never been to Reynold’s Plantation? I was there for a week last month and what a treat it was! The National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) had their annual retreat close to home this year which made it extra special for many of us. I was on staff working most of the time but still soaked up lots of great information and best of all saw a lot of photographer-friends I only get to see in person once a year. If you are a photographer specializing in children (newborn/families) or seniors, plan on attending one of these “Retreats” in the future. georgia-photography atlanta-senior-lightThere were Styled Senior Shoots with Amanda Holloway, Sarah Lane and Tash Haynes. An adorable Valentine’s Day theme that our models rocked! Dan Brouillette demonstrated lighting for everyone and showed his expertise.   We Periscoped a lot during the week for NAPCP and and Tash had these girls on the spot! I hung out over my balcony and tried to take shots like the one above at sunrise and sunset most days using my Fuji X100.

 

I missed my family while I was gone but I have to admit, re-entry to life outside of the Ritz Carlton was pretty tough. It was easy to get used to everything (especially food) being prepared for you. And you can’t beat the easily accessible spa!

Wednesday means Fox 5 Atlanta will be showing a Wednesday’s Child Segment featuring a foster child in need of a permanent home.  Try to catch channel 5 at noon or 6pm for the latest feature. I assisted one a few months ago by taking pictures of Toni’s segment at an Atlanta hair salon. Toni got a day of special treatment getting a total makeover.  She was full of questions for the professional hair and makeup team. I loved her ambition and all the things she wants to do in life.  You can see more about Toni and her segment here. She will be aging out of foster care soon and would benefit so much from a permanent family that could provide extra guidance and love. “Toni is a funny and positive teen with a great personality and a great sense of humor. She loves horses, playing card games, listening to music, talking and going to the movies. Toni also enjoys learning new things, cooking and doing hair and make-up for others, at which she is very talented. She is interested in doing hair and make-up or cooking professionally when she grows up. Toni needs a loving adoptive family who will provide her with the attention, structure, encouragement and nurturing environment she needs to continue to thrive and reach her goals. Her family will also need to support her desire to maintain her relationship with her sister, who has been planned for separately, as well as her need for ongoing therapy and academic assistance, which addresses her developmental delays.”

senior portrait atlanta senior picture red blueLook at my beautiful Senior Models!  After our shoot for the June Our Town Cover we had a little fun. These two have been friends since they were little and I’m so glad we now have these pictures to mark the end of their high school careers.  They are both going off to the University of Georgia soon and I can only image the fun they will have.  They already look like Georgia Bulldogs, don’t they? high school senior girl senior girl picture best friend senior picture smyrna senior picture girls senior pictures girls smyrnaWhat is better than being silly with your girlfriend???
