“A man should never neglect his family for business.” –Walt Disney

“Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.”  –Sam Keen

This is where you will find us this week…lazier than usual.  Last week was a different story when my family was vacationing hard in Florida.  When I say we vacation hard I mean we don’t do things in an easy or leisurely way.  You probably don’t want to ask me for Disney Vacation tips.  We hit several parks – open them up, shut them down and go full force all day long until Midnight.  It is exhausting and I always need a real vacation when we are back home.  This year we hit a milestone by having all potty trained children, no naps and no stroller.  My 4 year old got no slack and was a real trooper.  She rode everything she was tall enough for and loved it.  She rode Tower of Terror twice and had the courage to approach two(!) princesses.  To make it through each day, I only had one small backpack to carry our $40 of no-rain insurance (=Disney ponchos or “nachos” as Kate called them).  My children only broke down once when they had to endure a Foreigner rock concert at Sea World with their old parents.

I never take my big cameras on vacation and oh, how I love my iPhone for snapshots of our trip.  The above pictures were taken using Instagram which is probably my most favorite form of social media.  Why?  Because I don’t always have a lot to say but always have a picture to share!

This is a sweet family that had a family session with me before this little boy got his first real haircut.   It will be bittersweet to see him with his big boy hair do.  I bet he will look so grown up!   He is already doing many big-boy things so I guess it is time he looks the part of the toddler he is.  🙁  He is lucky to have a great big sister to lead the way for him.  She directed and helped him out a lot (it will always be that way!).

How did they know to wear my favorite colors, blue & green?  🙂  As summer gets closer there will be even more green grass and leaves as my backdrops.  I love all the natural colors that allow children’s faces and expressions to be the focus of any image.  It is always fun to have that pop of color too!  Crewcuts has some fun Spring children’s clothes that you can check out.  They always have a great selection for both casual and dressier outfits.

This is just to give you an idea of what some clothing choices might be.  I can always help with this if you are stuck.  I love to pull collections together from your existing clothes and often make decisions based on home decor and locations of photo sessions.

More later on what undertones of color look best on a person.  This is an individual thing and has nothing to do with the color but the shade.  My Mother has taught this for uh, many years and it is very dramatic to see it in person.  I am always a perfect model for her.  I look best in bright, clear colors (like the green above).  If she drapes me in that color and immediately puts a pastel (Easter egg colors or white undertones) on me, you can see how washed out I become.  There is no amount of makeup I can add to fix it and if I go around town like that people will ask me if I feel sick.  🙂  My husband is the opposite.  He looks the best in pastel colors.  It all has to do with the pigments in our skin and not our hair and skin coloring.  I am terrible about updating my site but hopefully I will be able to write more about this soon and show some examples.

More cute little kids in the gorgeous Spring morning light.  This little girly is just as spunky as my own and I love her Easter dress.  Her brother couldn’t be sweeter (and such a good helper)!

They are in the blue I love and back-dropped in all my favorite colors.  Their cute little faces should be permanent on my website!  Perfect Lisa Phillipson Photography branding, right? 🙂

Easter revisited!  I am still eating chocolate Easter Candy so I might as well post these pictures a little late.  All 3 of my children had Spring Break the week before and we ended up with a great Easter Weekend.  We were a bit lazy on Sunday after church and I can say that I am so glad someone named Bubba won The Masters!

And now back to business… Some pictures of Organic Bloom frames.  I get asked about these a lot so I like to share pictures online when I can.  They are much more beautiful in person if you want to stop by and see the quality of them.  I love mixing two frame shapes in wall galleries.  This is the color Espresso (dark brown and very popular).

Don’t forget the rounds or that there are many custom colors to choose from.  Most of the ones here you see do not have a glaze and show more of the wood through the paint for a great distressed look.  The small one on the bottom right shows a glaze in brown which is very gorgeous on the lighter colored frames.

I have some other frame styles I will be offering this year for my more traditional client homes so stay tuned!  My goal is to provide framed portraits for clients when possible so they can easily hang on their walls and enjoy right away.  I can guide you and make it really easy as I know it can be overwhelming with so many choices.

Heads UP!

I am donating a Baseball Inspired Photography Session to Smyrna Little League to benefit their Benchwarmers BBQ this Saturday, April 14th.  It includes one framed portrait in a gorgeous 8×8 round Organic Bloom frame.  Get your tickets now to get in on the silent auction, raffle drawing, food, fun and music!   They have childcare if needed (Date Night!).  Their goal is to raise $12,000 for bleacher covers and I’m all for that – no more freckles for me!

I love the team pictures that are available, but wouldn’t you just love to have a professional custom portrait of your baseball player?  I have a dedicated Smyrna Little Leauger of my own and I love the photos I have taken of him in his uniform over the years.  I can’t wait to pass on this gift to other parents!  If your son is “into it” as much as mine, it is a wonderful way to mark this time in their lives.

I was excited to be the feature photographer for Our Town Magazine this month.  They have a cover story on one of my favorite clients, little Charlie-Bear.  His parents, Doctors Alex & Leslie Patrick, have a great Dental Practice in the Smyrna Vinings area.  It is at the corner of Cooper Lake and the East/West Connector.  I’ve gotten to know this family over the past year and think the world of them.  They are so professional and still very personable that I want to recommend them to all my friends.  You can tell them I sent you!
